How to Write a Classified Ad That Sells in 24 Hours

A well-written classified ad gets 5x more responses than a poorly written one. Here are the proven techniques our top sellers use to close deals fast — even on the same day.

When you post a classified ad, you have just a few seconds to grab a buyer's attention before they scroll past. After analysing thousands of successful listings on AdZone, we have identified exactly what makes an ad perform well — and what kills it before anyone even clicks.

1. Your Title Is Everything

The title is the first and sometimes only thing a buyer reads. Avoid vague titles like "Phone for Sale" or "Car Available". Instead, pack your title with specifics: brand, model, year, key feature, and location.

Compare these two titles:

  • Bad: "Phone for Sale"
  • Good: "Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 256GB — Titanium Black — PTA Approved — Karachi"

The second title tells the buyer exactly what the item is, the storage capacity, the colour, whether it is PTA approved, and where to collect it. A buyer searching for this exact phone will click immediately.

A good title should answer three questions: What is it? What condition is it in? Where is it?

2. Photos Are Non-Negotiable

Ads with photos receive 8 times more responses than text-only listings. Take photos in good natural daylight, not at night with flash. Show the item from multiple angles. For vehicles, include interior shots, the odometer, and close-ups of any wear. For electronics, show the screen turned on. For property, photograph every room including the bathroom and kitchen.

Tips for better photos:

  • Use your phone in landscape orientation for wider shots
  • Clean and tidy the item before photographing
  • Use a plain background where possible
  • Take at least 5 to 8 photos showing all angles
  • Be honest about any scratches or damage — buyers appreciate transparency

Honesty in photos builds trust and saves time. Buyers who arrive and find the item different from the photos will walk away — wasting both your time and theirs.

3. Set a Competitive Price

Research similar listings on AdZone before setting your price. Search for the same item and see what others are charging. Pricing 10 to 15 percent below the average market rate will generate significantly more enquiries and often leads to a faster sale.

If you have room to negotiate, price slightly above your minimum and let buyers feel they are getting a deal when you come down a little. Pakistani buyers generally expect to negotiate, so factor this into your asking price.

4. Write a Detailed, Honest Description

Include everything a buyer needs to make a decision without having to ask: age of the item, reason for selling, original purchase price, any accessories included, known defects, and any recent repairs or servicing. The more complete your description, the fewer back-and-forth messages you will receive.

A good description for a mobile phone should include: original price, purchase date, battery health percentage, any screen or body damage, whether the original box and accessories are included, and whether the iCloud or Google account has been removed.

Be completely honest about any faults. A small scratch mentioned upfront builds trust. A scratch discovered on arrival destroys it.

5. Respond Fast

Buyers on classified platforms often contact multiple sellers at the same time. The first seller to respond with a clear, friendly, and informative message almost always wins the sale. Enable WhatsApp on your number and check your messages regularly.

Response time tips:

  • Aim to reply within 30 minutes during daytime hours
  • Keep your phone on loud when you have an active listing
  • Have a simple ready message prepared: "Yes, still available. When would you like to inspect?"

6. Be Available for Inspection

Nothing closes a deal faster than allowing a buyer to inspect in person. Suggest a specific time and a convenient, public location. Being flexible about inspection times shows you are serious about selling.

7. Mark Your Ad as Sold

Once your item sells, mark it as sold in your AdZone dashboard. This keeps the platform clean and helps build your reputation as a reliable seller. Buyers remember sellers who are professional and responsive.

Following these steps consistently will give your classified ads the best possible chance of selling quickly and at a fair price. Good luck!
